I have a MTD printing question, please.I have been a user for decades and I am, effectively, a professional musician. Recently, MTD has stopped sending print data to my printer. The right number of pages spew out but they are blank. When I save a file as a pdf to use a pdf editor to print the resulting pdf is unreadable. I have tried different pdf editors and none will read the pdf file. The files appear to ‘save’ okay as far as MTD is concerned but, clearly, they do not.
This is a huge problem for me. Not only do I have decades of compositions/arrangements that I can now only print from screen shots but, like many, I have tried other music composition programs such as Harmony Assistant and Sibelius but always defaulted to MTD as the best and simplest.
Any ideas, folk?
thanks in advance

April 13, 2026 at 5:04 pm #5068Quick question, Doug: What operating system are you using?
But can other programs print? Have you made any changes to your system recently—like printer drivers or anything like that?
I’ve been working with MTD myself for years, but I’ve never encountered a problem like this before.April 14, 2026 at 1:12 am #5069I modestly add a new possible argument. The fact that the score is not displayed correctly could be linked to the TTF font. In the Windows version, I think I remember it being called “Anastasia”. I don’t know to what extent reinstalling this font or even deleting and reinstalling the entire program could solve this problem.
April 14, 2026 at 4:23 am #5070That’s a good point, Antonia, but as I understand it from Doug, the score is displayed on the screen (otherwise he wouldn’t be able to take screenshots).
It’s just that nothing shows up on the printout. If the Anastasia font were missing, nothing legible would appear on the screen either.
But you’re absolutely right that reinstalling MTD might help here.April 14, 2026 at 9:55 am #5071Hi Mario2,
I’m using Windows10 Home Edition from 2021.
To Anastasia’s point about reinstalling where would I get the installation exe? If I reinstall doesn’t the process fail because Passport is no longer able to register a new installation?
I’ve just tried to open a blank staff saved to pdf. There error message is ‘[…] it is either not a supported file type or […] the file has been damaged …]’
That was using Adobe, which is happily opening pdfs from other programs.
Thanks for your thoughts, both.

A few of us have it including Andre and myself. m i k e (at) h a l l o r a n m u s i c dot c o m. Please put your request in the title—I get hundreds of spam emails daily.

This is not an issue. If you have a license, you should be able to install. Andre is better with the Windows version than I since it’s been many years since I’ve owned a PC.
April 14, 2026 at 2:32 pm #5076I have essentially cared for installation files of Encore, and not of MusicTime “de luxe”. But apparently I have some for MTD V4.
As far as registration codes are concerned, both Encore5 and MTD4 store them in the Windows registry, so that they survive very well over reinstallations, and can be browsed for a later installation on another machine.
But for Encore4 and MTD3, it’s totally different. The registration code must be given at installation time (each time it’s done again) and is not recoverable. But this process is a kind of decryption, and does not involve any interaction with a Passport server.
Please write me with enough details in you are on Windows. Join a sample score if appropriate.
