v 5.0.4.875FWIW for anyone who has experienced the issue where you copy/cut notes and paste them in to another measure where they bleed over in to the next measure or blow up half the page…This is a “GUI” issue – which in layman’s terms means it’s dealing with things not visually apparent on the screen. So this is a list of things I’ve done for a workaround:
(1) REAPPLY SPACING BEFORE COPY/CUT
– In the measure(s) containing the notes you wish to extract – first open the Spacing dialog box (Win: ctrl + J) and re-apply spacing (I select “Mathematically perfect” for this) to the measure(s) – this makes it so that when you copy or cut, it is not taking up extra or inaccurate space. ( For multiple measures – unless it’s entirely repetitious I tend to do this one-measure at a time. )
– When you paste the notes take some care in pasting as close to where that beat begins (not a big deal but it can help)
= = =
– IF this fails and spills in to subsequent measures you have your one UNDO allocation! Of course for extra security you can always open a New Default Score (“sandbox”) and paste in to a measure in case things get messed up with the pasting and you can’t get it back with UNDO.
– This gets wonky when you are pasting into measure(s) with *multiple layers* of notation (even if it’s rests)! So that becomes another scenario you may want to move the *other layers* in to the “sandbox” window. It takes a few whacks at this to see how it applies to the way you notate.
– A measure with grace notes can cause issues too. Probably a less than 50% chance of a successful pasting which declines with more than one grace note. ESPECIALLY if the grace note is embedded in a beamed group.
– Back to the GUI idea….I have found sometimes a measure is just messed up behind the scenes that I will do the copy & paste in the “sandbox” (New Default Score) window. And then copy it from there to the score.
– IF any notes have been changed via the duration dialogue box (Ctrl + D) it appears the GUI does not acknowledge and will likely result in a failed paste.
– For me I have noticed sometimes I have done things like written a shuffle hi-hat rhythm but when I added the SD or BD I used regular 8th notes so on a pasting it would bleed in to the next measure. And if I can’t fix it with the first couple methods I just suck it up and re-notate the measure!
