HI
been using Encore – fabulous! – for 30 years (12 years for Encore 5.0) but suddenly it is asking me for a serial number and has gone into ‘Demo’ mode
so unable to print or save or extract parts.have a copy of the purchase receipt with receipt number, item number but no serial number.
i have the discs for Encore 4.2, 4.5 but not for 5.0.any idea where/how could get the serial number to unlock my program please?
have a concert coming up and need my score! (not to mention all the other arrangements being held hostage!!)thanks for any help anyone can provide!
December 23, 2024 at 3:26 am #3730According to a very recent reply, the new owner of Passport Music Software has no archive of the registration information issued earlier by GVOX or the “PassportMusic” (not sure of spelling) company who took over around 2013.
If you are with Windows, the registration code is stored in the Windows registry. I suppose that it may have been wiped out by something… Do you have some backup files of your system, in which you could recover the registry?

December 23, 2024 at 4:01 am #3731As far as I know, the serial number was sent by e-mail at the time of purchase. I had printed out this e-mail at the time and archived it for such cases.
I don’t know exactly where the key is stored in the registry, but just search the registry for “Encore”, as Andre advised.
Unlocking still works in any case. I had to set up a new Windows 10 about 3 weeks ago because the hard disk on my existing one had read errors and I could no longer create an image.
The registration after reinstalling Encore 5 worked perfectly.
Good luck!December 23, 2024 at 4:51 am #3732thanks – that gives me hope!
but cant say im computer literate enough to utilise it…
however i will get onto some tech friends and hope they can help
thanks very muchDecember 24, 2024 at 4:27 am #3736Once I recovered my serial number, it worked very well for me to open Encore as Administrator (right mouse button, in Windows) and then put the serial number in. Then it was fixed forever.

January 3, 2025 at 12:48 pm #3779Hi, I have just run into a request for serial number after many years of use of Encore 5. Am reviewing the tips already indicated by other users, and will try some of these to see if I can get back in. If these don’t work, not sure what my other options are? Thanks for the posts already made by others.
January 3, 2025 at 12:55 pm #3780Hi again,
Went back and found the serial number I had been sent by e-mail after a similar incident in 2016. This serial number worked fine, and I have Encore 5 back again. Problem solved for now.
January 4, 2025 at 2:46 am #3790Thank you for your feedback.
It’s great that it’s now working again until version 6 is finally available.- This reply was modified 1 month ago by Mario2.
January 4, 2025 at 11:36 pm #3796My Encore 5 (on Windows 7, 10 & 11 and different hardware over time) has had problems maintaining the serial number, I suspect in the Windows Registey, since installation(s). I probably have to re-license it every 3rd time I use it. I asked about it years ago, and got no improvements from any suggestions. I keep a copy of the serial number (email message) in the directory with the program.
I hope 6 will not have this problem.
January 5, 2025 at 9:04 am #3797You’ll find the registration number in registry entry
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PASSPORT\Encore\5.0\Registration]
as value of variable “SN”=You might want to check sometimes (using REGEDIT), before launching Encore 5, if this variable is still there. It might be wiped out by some cleaning software.
You might want to export that entry, then restore it when necessary (easier thatn retyping…)
Note: for old or beta Encore 5 versions, the registry key may have “GVOX” or “PassportMusic” instead of “PASSPORT”
January 11, 2025 at 3:34 pm #3829I found my registration code in the system registry of my older laptop. My version on that laptop is 5.04. I had recently purchased a new laptop and had everything transferred from my old laptop. When I did that, the machine took my copy of Encore back to demo. To find your registration, go to “regedit. Once in the application, type “Encore” in the search box then hit enter. There are multiple areas within the system registry for Encore. I found my registration code after about 6 clicks of the enter key as each click takes you to a different section of the system registry. The only way I was able to recognize my code was that I remembered it being a series of letters and numbers in groups of four and it started with “K”. Copied/pasted that code into the registration window of Encore. It worked!!!! Hope this helps.
