I have seen many comments about Encore needing to compete with Sibelius (and formerly, Finale). I disagree. When you used Encore, did you compare it with those other notation programs, or simply use it because of its simplicity and reasonable functionality? I, for one, am simply waiting for a version that runs on newer operating systems and has basically the same funtionality as the older Encore, including – especially – the keyboard shortcuts. If Don Williams has seen many requests, or there are reasons, for some specific new functionality, let it be included, but give us, basically, what we all knew, and loved, and became familiar with, in a new Encore.

Some new features might be nice but if you get carried away with those you’ll quickly end up with a bug-ridden mess. What made me pass many years ago on both Finale and Sibelius and go to Encore instead was how cumbersome I found basic stuff like note entry. Encore was a lot easier to get up and running with. What I don’t want is stuff like the direction Guitar Pro and MuseScore seem to have gone, which is apparently trying to turn what started as transcription software into software synth or even recording/audio editing software. There are plenty of both already; transcription software should focus on the actual transcription part, and how it gets rendered visually, not 5,000 sounds to play it back or yet another “me-too” DAW. People seem to forget that you don’t need one program to do everything, as long as you have simple, reliable ways to pass info between them, like MIDI, or Music XML, or whatever.

December 18, 2024 at 5:29 pm #3703grossmusicParticipantI just want a 64-bit Mac update. I don’t care if it’s exactly like 2014’s 5.0.7 – I just need it to work on my new Mac so I can update old .enc files & maybe get back into arranging after 10 years’ hiatus.
Others who might be willing include some already in the forums who were Matt Ingalls’ beta testers during the difficult gvox years as listed in the 2014 Encore 5 manual:
