I am looking to open some Music Time files that have the .MUS extension created circa 1995 so it probably would have been on Windows 3.1 or 95 version of Music Time. I know Encore can open .MUS and I have opened some newer Music Time files with it but the earlier versions seem to be a different file type with a different header despide the common .MUS extension. When viewed with a hex editor, the type I am able to open start with MTIW. The type I cannot open start with SCOS. Any ideas how I can get these files opened?

    I have no idea.

Encore 5 can open MTD 4 files but cannot open MTD 1 or 2 files. Last I checked, I could open them in Encore 4.12 (probably when I concerted all of mine 20+ years ago) . I have never seen a MTD 3 file so I can’t answer to that.

I figured it out. I am able to convert MusicTime 1 and 2 files into midi, possibly into current Encore with some later research. So if you need these types of files converted please reach out. I can also open and convert classic Mac versions that ran on OS 7.x, 8.x, 9x. https://www.deepsignalstudios.com/file-conversion/encore-enc-musictime-mus-midi-file
