Excited for Encore 6 for mac!
Does anyone happen to know if Finale projects will open with Encore? Also, how far back will we be able to go with old Encore projects?

Several people have expressed here that Encore6 should open not only Encore5 format files, but also the most recent Encore4 files (typically E455).
If my memory serves, there have been two formats in the E4 lifespan, and the earliest one was not readable by E5 – old E4 files needed to be converted using the latest E4 levels. But I don’t remember details (perhaps some incompatibilities with E5).
So, I would not expect that E6 could go back to “early E4” format.

As of Finale, Encore 5 did not open the Finale format, and apparently Overture doesn’t either. I would be surprized if the E6 plans were to include that format, taking into account that MusicXML is a much better approach to import in one editor the work prepared in another one.

Much of the Encore 5 code never performed as advertised—or at all. Some of these functions work in Overture but not the way that Encore users are used to. I have been testing some of this for Don. There will be some crossover between Encore 6 and Overture but how much and when, we won’t know until we see it.

Encore 6, like Overture 5 and hundreds of other apps, will support MusicXML 3.0. Encore 5 supports v. 1.1 (Win) or 1.3 (Mac) — no expressions or lyrics.

If you save Encore 5 files as .pdf, you can use PDFtoMusic Pro to read the font information and export as MusicXML 3.0. These files can be opened in Finale with a minimum of tweaking.

MusicXML is a toolkit, not an app. Version 3’s inadequacies come to light immediately when one tries to use PDFtoMusic Pro to read anything with dotted slurs. By the time you’ve sorted out the resulting mess in Finale, you’ll wish that you had just entered the notes by hand.

I’ve had mixed results with MuseScore files downloaded as .xml and opened in Finale. Sometimes, all I have to do is change fonts and adjust spacing; other times, I’m looking at a jumbled disaster.

…Personally, I’ll be happy if Encore5 runs on Catalina or later OS.

Encore 5 is dead. It doesn’t (and won’t) run on Catalina or later OS. Encore 6 will (and we are all in the wait)!

The fact that Encore5 does not run on Cataline or later isn’t due to Encore, but to an arbitrary choice of MacOs.

Couldn’t happen. Some code cannot recompiled 64 bit and must be rewritten. The old owner and his team had years to fix it and never did.
