Over 20 years ago I used Trax software created by Passport Designs. Trax created MTS files and they could also saved as MIDI files. I have dozens of MTS files that I did not save in MIDI format and now I try to change them to MIDI files. I have not found any converter that could do that. Could someone help me with this issue?
I have not the setup disk of my Trax. I found from the net a place (Vetusware.com) that I could download Trax setup package but that does not work. Maybe it does not work anymore with new Windows versions.
March 28, 2025 at 4:49 am #4112Can anyone help with this issue? My understanding is that Master Track Pro and the cheaper version Trax did both use MTS files and MIDI files.
Has somebody an up and running version of Master Tracks Pro? I could send my files to you for conversion.
April 1, 2025 at 1:06 am #4125Hello, I have Master Tracks Pro in version 6.01 as well as 6.8.4 and can try to convert the data for you. Have I understood you correctly? You want to have all your Trax files converted to MIDI format?
Send me your data to: hofmann(dot)mario(at)arcor(dot)de

September 28, 2025 at 9:40 pm #4781Hello. This is directed at Mario2. Ive been searching for ways to convert old mts files from 25 years ago when I first started getting into music using Passport Midi workshop. I cant seem to properly convert them myself. Theres 28 mostly short clips/sketches. A few might be longer. If theres a possibility that these can be converted and youre will to help We can work out some kind of monetary agreement for your time.
Thanks

Hi Mike,
What format do you want to convert the files to? As I understand you, you want the MTS files converted to MIDI right?
If I am wrong, please specify the desired format.
If “only” the conversion is required, I can do that. Even without financial compensation. However, if there are editing tasks involved, I would ask for a small fee.
You are welcome to send me the files. I will try to convert them into the format you specify. Please send to: hofmann.mario(at)arcor.de

February 16, 2026 at 3:40 am #4975Hi Everybody,
I’m new to this forum. I have some very old music files made with Master Tracks which I’m desperately trying to convert to MIDI; I’ve tried to open them using Master Track 3 on Atari but it didn’t work. I made them in 1996; they have no extension but their header is SCO5 so I guess I used MTS 5 on a Mac at that time (I’ve never used Windows). I found online a disk image of MTS 5 for Mac but apparently it is corrupted. I also made some attempts with Trax on Mac, no chance. Eventually I found this forum and asked Mike2, who could not read them neither with MTS 6.0.1, nor with MTS 6.8.4, nor with Encore 5.0.4.875 (all Windows versions). It may be that the file coding is not exactly the same between Windows and Mac. Is there anybody who has a working version of MTS 5 (or maybe MTS 6) on a Mac and can help me in this matter? Thanks in advance,

Hi Stefano,
I hope you find someone who can help you here soon.
Small correction: I am not “Mike2” but “Mario2”.February 17, 2026 at 9:57 am #4977Ciao Stefano,
I’m not really a user of MTS…
Would you send me such a file? What exactly do you call TRAX? I have seen that word used as a shorthand for MasterTracks, but also for another piece of software, perhaps something that was running on pre-PC computers.
February 18, 2026 at 3:51 am #4979@Mario2: Sorry 🙂
@Andre: Searching around for a way to open my files, I found that there is this Trax software, a “light” version of Master Tracks Pro. I downloaded an old, working version and I tried —but it didn’t read my files. I’ll send you one of the files by email, thanks a lot!
April 21, 2026 at 10:36 pm #5084Hi, I’ve been a Master Tracks user since 1995. I still have the software and use it on Windows 10. I also have Traxx version 3 on Windows 10.
To convert files, use MT or Trax in a Windows 3.11 emulator. In DOSBox, install Windows 3.11 and you’re done.
I also have Master Tracks PC which I play in DOSBox and I’ll soon install it on a 486 PC with MS-DOS
April 21, 2026 at 10:41 pm #5085Hello, I’m still collecting a lot of software from MS-DOS and Windows 311, Windows 95, and Windows XP.
April 23, 2026 at 1:09 pm #5087That’s a good precaution.
I still have some old computers running Win3.11, Win95, Win98, Win2000, and XP. On the Win3.11 machine, for example, I still have the old Midiscan sheet music recognition software from Musitek. It runs flawlessly only on Win3.11 and with limitations on Win95.
I still have the installation routines for all of these operating systems. I also still have an unopened copy of the OS/2 operating system.April 25, 2026 at 11:42 am #5094I also still have an unopened copy of the OS/2 operating
OS/2! When I bought MusicTime, in 1995, it’s on that system I ran it, since it was the one made available as home computer by my employer.
April 26, 2026 at 3:00 am #5095Andre, I remember that a friend of mine had it on his PC back then. If I’m not mistaken, it looked a bit like the Apple operating system and was incredibly flexible by the standards of the time. I never installed it myself, though. I bought MusicTime 2.0 in the early ’90s and had it installed on Windows 95.
