Not sure relevant this is, but did not see mention of it on this forum. It might be of interest to longtime users with this older version who are now finally being forced to buy a new computer as Microsoft has quit supporting Windows 8.1. I’ve been using Finale for some time now, but still use my Encore when I need to get something down quick. I feel Finale, while very capable, is convoluted, often getting in the way, while Encore is just so straightforward (and I’ve been using it since the 1997 floppy disk version). Anyway, I just bought a new HP Pavilion x360 and today did the install and it worked fine, only asking that I download adobe reader, which I did. It works great. I edited some pieces and also tested printing to pdf, which I couldn’t do on my old system, and it also worked great.

Oh that sounds great! Thanks for the information, even though I’m working with Encore 5.0.4.875.
I can’t get along with Finale, MuseScore and Dorico from Steinberg at all. I have to look in the manual all the time. Very time consuming…

Indeed. I have all three. Dorico is too rigid and MuseScore is still a hot mess.

However, I’ve always used Finale for my heavy lifting where Encore isn’t up to the task so, while I want Encore 6, I can get by in Finale 27. I use three monitors as I work: one for the score, one for all the tool palettes and the third has the User Guide — can’t work Finale without that open.

With my new computer, I just upgraded to Finale 27, so am still adjusting to it. It has already got in my way a few times, which I expected. I agree with your take that it is good for heavy lifting. I just wish it was designed with a more intuitive work flow. If Encore 6.0 does come out I will certainly look at it. 4.5.5 is pretty comfy for me, so it’ll have to be a big improvement a pay yet another upgrade fee to Encore. I love your 3 monitor setup idea btw, brilliant!
