Hi,
I need access to my old Encore files (from the late 1990s), and I want to buy Encore, but I could find only the sinister-looking musica.at site. Has anybody ordered something from them? Can I trust them?
Thanks.September 27, 2025 at 4:17 am #4779Hello Mr. Rescu
I wouldn’t stop on the look of this site, as a joke I would not qualify it as “sinister” but simply as “Austrian”.
It seems quite recently updated, so there is a fair chance that they would be honest with their customers. However, they were probably authorized resellers at the time of the GVOX and PASSPORTMUSIC companies, but this authorization has probably dropped when the latter company stopped business in 2021 or so. They might have some unsold licences that they want to make money of at a 75% discount price, and this might not be that legal or contractual…
But there is another warning: this is Encore 5, and I’m not sure at all that files created in the late 90ies could be read vy Encore 5, even perhaps not by Encore 455 that some of us still have available: the upward compatibility was broken during the Encore 4 lifespan.
You could have a chance with Harmony Assistant: this Myriad product has a function to import Encore files, with a variable quality, and better with older files. If importing is successful, a score can be exported with MusicXML.
You might want to send me some of your files (say two: a rather small one and a rather large one), I could see if there is any way to recover their contents. My mai id can be guessed from my identification here.September 27, 2025 at 7:59 am #4780Hello Mr. Rescu,
This site is trustworthy. I bought my Encore 5 there in April 2014.
But as Andre has already noted, it is somehow semi-legal. It is possible that the company “Kaiser-Kaplaner”, owner of musica.at, still has remaining licenses from GVOX which are now to be sold off.
You can check under “Important Info…” to contact the company and ask. I only see the PayPal option for ordering the software.October 5, 2025 at 5:04 pm #4791I have years of old Encore files I need to open use in some form but now I use a Mac and they are in Windows. What to do????!!!!!
October 6, 2025 at 2:10 am #4793For a few years I was working with Encore v5, both on Windows and Mac at the same time. I simply changed the pendrive from one computer to the other. I had no problems. I only remember that I had to adjust the page format. The rest, I think, I remember worked perfectly.
October 29, 2025 at 8:51 pm #4836А в чем проблема? В интернете есть демо 5 версии
October 30, 2025 at 1:44 am #4838I’m not sure if the DEMO versions allow you to save and print the full score.
October 30, 2025 at 4:10 am #4839Not sure what is answered here. For sure, the demo version cannot save/write files. Not even for a 30-day period – what is possible with some products such as Overture.
Basically, reading Windows Encore 5 from a mac “isn’t an issue”, as soon as you have a mac version — and today onbly an “old mac” can do the job.
Now, a few people have mentioned recently that with some kind on “Win emulator on Mac”, the one can use the win version.
October 30, 2025 at 5:40 pm #4840Я в Encore не работал, слишком молодой для него. Так вот, было бы интересно попробовать адаптировать чей-нибудь старый проект. Как на этом форуме можно связаться с кем-то?

What Andre said. The demo version cannot be converted to the release version.
In fact, if you find a download link anywhere for the release version of 5.7 for the Mac, there’s a tweak that one must run that turns it into 5.6 1303M so that it accepts a serial number and works properly over Mojave, the only macOS one should be using. Both Andre and I have the files and instructions.
My email is m i k e (a) h a l l o r a n m u s i c dot c o m — please put something in the title like Need Encore file or similar so that I don’t dismiss the request.
October 31, 2025 at 10:44 am #4846Hello.
I am a retired music teacher from Poland.
I have been using Encore since 1997. I also used Music Time Deluxe before and am accustomed to these programs, so in October 2009 I decided to purchase Encore 5.0.1.
I used this program on a laptop running Windows Vista and then Windows 7. During this time, I used updates received from the program manufacturer. The last version I used was Encore 5.0.4.872. Unfortunately, my old laptop broke, and I had to buy a new one with Windows 11. I’m having trouble installing Encore 5.0.1 using the installer I received from GVOX in 2009. I can’t update it to version 5.0.4.872 because the update files I have don’t work with Windows 11.
Can I get an Encore 5.0.4.872 installer from you that I can install on a Windows 11 laptop?October 31, 2025 at 11:03 am #4847Hello,
Please send me a mail so that I could send you a download link.October 31, 2025 at 11:36 am #4848Thanks to the help of forum members, the Encore update issue has been resolved. This post can be considered closed. Thank you for your help.

Well, if you need I could try help you with saving your old works. Free.
