Good day Musicians. I am having a problem with getting the Timpani drums play correct. I copied the arrangement of “The Holy City” by (Stephen Adams) on E5 so I am trying to put in the Timpani drums at the last four bars of The Holy City and I am not getting the true sound of the timpani drums. I looked all over the instructions of E5 and cant find it. I put the Timpani to 10 in the mini channel from the staff sheet and raise the volume also to hear it and I am not getting the true sound of the Timpan drum. I don’t know what to do. Can some musician help me solve this problem please before this set me crazy.
      With anticipatory thanks

        Good day Tony,
short version: what is the ” sound source ” of the Timpani? Standalone ? Plugin in a Host ? in this case: is something broken in routing ?
Is there an octave shift? Or another interval shift? ( for example: in Staff Sheet, if You change the “Key” value, does it bring something ? the ” visible notes ” stay in place , but here You have access to the mapping if needed, as a bell becoming a snare drum…)

          Tony,

Are you using the sound card in your computer? Are you using the general MIDI sounds? MIDI channel 10 is used for percussion sounds in general MIDI and each note plays a different instrument. You can see them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_MIDI

There is “timpani” in the list but (not having tried it) it probably only plays one pitch.

Outside of that, a lot of synthesized timpani sounds sound to me like someone hit the timpani with a wooden mallet. They are harsh and bright. I have gotten a better timpani sound by filtering a lot of the high frequencies (on a synth). I don’t know if you can do that with whatever you are using for sounds.

I don’t know if this applies to your situation, but the MIDI channel 10 in your post brought this up in my mind.

          God bless!

          Geoffrey
