I don’t know if there are any others like me lurking out there, but I am still running version 4.5.5, now on a windows 11 machine. I know the bugs, idiosyncrasies and limitations of the program very well by now, and have come up with several work-arounds to get it to do what I need it to do. Bottom line is that I can and do crank out detailed lead sheets using this almost as fast as I could write out a fair copy out by hand. So very unlike my experiences with Finale! SO my question is, when the new version on Encore finally comes out, will I be able to install it on my windows computer without it overwriting or otherwise interfering with my old version? Because depending on how the new version is, I want the ‘safety net’ of access to my good old trusted 4.5.5.
(Apologies to those of you that, being more advanced in computing, would consider this a stupid question.)August 17, 2025 at 2:47 am #4644The question is not so stupid. Who knows what happens when you install new software?
But I assume that Encore 6, when it comes out, will not change anything in “old” installations because it will not be an update of the old Encore but a completely new program. Always assuming we are talking about the Windows platform here.
I used to have several versions of Encore 5 running side by side on my Win7 computer without them affecting each other.
The more important question would be whether the old Encore files can be opened with Encore 6 and how far back this compatibility is guaranteed.-

Often the installation folders have names containing the version numbers, but I haven’t any idea anymore on what is the default installation folder name of Encore 455.
It may be a good idea to make a backup copy of your installation folder.
Once the product is out, we may be able to give installation hints for this kind of situation, if necessary. But I would speculate on the following:
– being a 32-bit programs, Encore 455 and 5 should install within “C:/Program Files (x86)/”
– being a 64-bit program, Encore 6 should install within “C:/Program Files/”August 18, 2025 at 3:07 pm #4651Thank you both for taking the time to reply! I am encouraged that you were able to install multiple versions of Encore 5 on your windows 7 setup! It would seem being an all new program it should coexist without bothering older versions. I sure hope my .enc files are compatible with the new program, or I’m in trouble!. A quick check shows me Encore has installed itself in my ‘C:/Program Files/’ as a sub-folder called ‘Encore’. I will make a copy, thanks for the tip.
August 19, 2025 at 3:51 am #4652As far as I can understand, users still with Windows 7 may need to check their system requirements. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions seem quite independent. One can migrate 32>64, but it might require a new or reformatted hard disk, and a reinstallation of “everything”. The machine itself must be 64-bit compatible.
I was thinking of that when “Smoothie” said that his/her Encore5 was installed in the C:/Program Files/ folder. On 64-bit systems, this folder is meant to contain 64-bit applications, when 32-bit applications are in C:/Program Files (x86)/.
Now, I don’t know if that’s just for convenience, or if there is a technical difference on these two folders.I have installed two 32-bit applications (among which Encore 5) in C:/Program Files/, overriding the default prompt. The installation went well, and elementary operation seems OK.

August 19, 2025 at 4:11 am #4653In the meantime, I have switched to Win10 64bit after my Win7 crashed last November.
Encore 5 was installed under C:/Program Files (x86)/.
I currently have no other versions installed in parallel. This was only the case with Win7.August 19, 2025 at 12:57 pm #4658Thanks again gentlemen. I was surprised to find Encore installed in the program files folder, rather than the x86 folder, but I was just so relieved that it actually worked on a new Windows 11 computer (albeit with a couple of new bugs) that I feel I can’t complain! Yes Andre, my given name is Mike but my nickname is Smoothie. No attempt at subterfuge!
