Ok, I did some more experimenting and managed to both figure out what caused the color change to happen, and how to correct it. In case anyone else runs into this problem, I’ll explain.

I have need to use a bit of color in the lead sheets I make, mostly red and green, and in rare cases, other colors.

I usually put in the text, then afterward, select it and choose red or green. Recently, I discovered that I could select the text and change it while I was still editing it. THAT’s when the color of my score text elements started getting messed up. I’m still not sure of the exact conditions, because it doesn’t always happen. I’ve just stopped changing colors that way.

The fix was to create a temporary text field over the title, select the text, and click the black spot. The color won’t change until you close the text field editor and possibly move the field. After the score text elements have turned back to black (assuming that’s what you want,) the temporary text field can be deleted.
