All “windows” except the score itself have a black background. This is hard to read (or needs a bigger “white font”) – and even worse to print – if that is some time done.
You’re 100% right. If there’s no way to change/adjust this white font on a black background, that would be a reason (the first reason) for me to stop using Encore…
August 20, 2025 at 11:25 pm #4664I am using Encore 5.0.2.593, have migrated it up through various Win versions now running on Win 11.
To install on Win 11 had to specify Window 7 compatibility on the install program EXE. Keeping track
of the install pass code for the last (35?) years was critical. My main complaint with my version is
putting a lyric line in is tortuous, multiple lyric lines is like Dante’s inferno! Next time I need
multiple lyric line I’m going to print to PDF and insert the PDF as a background graphic in my word
processor (Libre Text) the bare music score to PDF drop it into a word processing document
(I use Libre Office) mark the graphic as “overwriteable” and just freehand type the multiple lines in.
Learning curve on V5 was so long I’m afraid of V6 (don’t like the black palette background either).
I certainly hope V6 will read the V5 files (I must have over a hundred), if not I stay with V5 as
long as I can.August 21, 2025 at 2:59 am #4665I am not familiar with version 5.0.2.593. Perhaps Andre knows what to do in this case.
You can write to him. His e-mail address is in his avatar.
I can only report on version 5.0.4.875. This version could be installed on Win10 without any problems. I am also not aware of any black backgrounds in the score view or in the toolboxes.-

This dark background resembles the two possibilities ov Overture, one is black and the other “light black”. But Overture has also 4 other ones, in which the first one is a “normal” black on white, the others more colored but probably experimental.

August 21, 2025 at 3:36 am #4669I am using Encore 5.0.2.593,…
No, Encore 5 isn’t 35 years old, perhaps 17.
The oldest registration keys which are valid for E5 were issued in 2006-2007 for E4 with an “included upgrade” to E5.
But 502 had a short life, I don’t remember of any problem such as the ones you mention. You would best upgrade to 504, which is the stable Win version. Write me a note so that I can send you a download link.
August 22, 2025 at 11:10 am #4671I’ve been using Encore 5.0.4 on Windows 11 and have had good luck with it but I’m really looking forward to Encore 6. By the way, “Coming Soon” under Contact isn’t much help. At least put something there even it’s “will be read but no reply”.
August 23, 2025 at 1:24 pm #4680You can see screenshots of Encore 6 under the “Development” tab. At least the Encore logo can be seen in the top left corner. Apparently the first results of the new software are already available. A lot has changed.
August 30, 2025 at 4:33 am #4689summer is almost over…
August 30, 2025 at 2:47 pm #4690You’re right, but here in Germany there are still 23 days until the beginning of fall. 😉

August 31, 2025 at 2:56 am #4692At least, I count 25 days between 30/8 and 23/9.
I would have written “coming this year”, it wouldn’t need periodic updates… 🙁

August 31, 2025 at 3:48 am #4694Maybe it will be again:
“
Available Fall
”
What we had already…
Hard to believe… that is already 3 years ago, in 2022…
Available Fall 2022

September 3, 2025 at 2:13 am #4701I think I already have so much “Stockholm syndrome” that, if one day the big news of the new Encore comes out, I will miss that moment of opening the Passportmusic website while making an espresso from the machine at the company where I work.
September 3, 2025 at 4:11 am #4702I find myself in a similar boat without a paddle…
Years ago I started using Encore 4.1 (am now using Finale 26)
And created a box full of compositions and arrangements on 3.5
Floppies…I have lost the installation cd disks (3 I believe)
Now I want to return to yesteryear and re write some of my best work,
but need to install Maybe E 5 onto a MacBook which has high sierra OS.
I also have an external usb floppy drive in order to read my old files
Once I am able to find the installation disks,
Is anyone out there willing to share their copies?
I will gladly pay!
Note: I have been told that high sierra may not work w encore due to “Classic”
Mode is not supported…? I may need Mojave.September 3, 2025 at 4:38 am #4703Hello Noel, send me a mail so that I could send you a link to the latest download versions of Encore.
Apparently the recommended OS version is Mojave, and that I can see High Sierra is older. I know nothing detailed of Mac systems.
I’m not sure that scores created in Encore 4.1 will be read by Encore 5. Those created in Encore 4.5.5 will, for sure. At some time there has been a disruption.
You may want to send me a sample .enc file from that level, I’d try to sort out.
