I’m in the hate MuseScore camp but it’s been good to me lately. A few publishers have found out that I know how to take MuseScore downloads and correct them in Finale.

You are entitled to that opinion but I disagree. I will admit that MuseScore 4 is no longer horrible — except that horrid Edwin font that makes so much of the lyric content on their download pages unreadable. Fortunately, it is easily replaced in Finale by Minion Pro, a free Adobe font that installs with Acrobat Reader and is legible down to 6 point. Minion Pro works in Encore 5, also.
Why am I waiting for Encore 6? I have literally hundreds of Encore 5 and Encore 4 files. Among those are a set of original compositions, especially a musical revue, that the musicians in my band have been talking about recording piecemeal, with MIDI parts taking the place of as-yet-unrecorded tracks, but with better sounding sampled than we’re available with Encore 5. I would use a different notation program to proceed, but the .mid and .mxml files from Encore 5 are not readable by other programs. So my project is on hold, awaiting a new release of Encore. Hopefully it will read prior version files. And in general, if I could get better sounding playback of my original music, I could do things to market it more easily. All of this could be achieved by exporting it to a DAW or other program with more realistic samples.
Since 2021 I’m waiting for Encore 6. I bought an Mac M1 and, what a big surprise, my Encore 5 didn’t work. The old Encore doesn’t work with Mac M1. Tired of waiting for Encore 6, I bought an old iMac to put the old Encore to run. Now I have 2 iMacs, side to side. One of them for run Encore 5 (exclusively). The other to run the other things. I swear, I’ll wait till the end of 2024 winter (here Summer). I’m in Brazil, the down side of the earth.
