That’s a good point. I have 795.130. It was a product of ‘the Skunks’. I pulled away from the group when I began to be uncomfortable with the attitudes (not the improvements) so I expect I do not have the latest skunks version.

Encore 5 per Windows funziona anche su Win10/11.August 1, 2025 at 10:41 am #4617Giovanni,
What is unbelievable, is that Apple has stopped supporting 32bit applications – about 8 years ago, I think. Now, this forum is essentially a dialog between users, with very seldom addition of the product’s author. None of us know when Encore 6 will actually come out.

Well, 15 years ago, Apple did announce that 32bit support was going to be dropped in 2012 (13 years ago) but that did not happen. Many of us were imploring Richard to upgrade to 64 bit at that time. So, when Catalina was released nearly 8 years later in 2019, no one should have been surprised that Encore for Mac would no longer work. Richard and Co. did nothing about it.
The only decent workaround is to own a Mac built between 2012–2018 that runs Mojave*. That is the most stable that Encore 5 can be—in fact, it’s pretty good for many of us. There are issues with High Sierra and earlier macOS that cannot be resolved. When these were spotted, Richard and I went back and forth with him insisting that those problems were Apple’s fauld—and he was right. Not upgrading Encore to 64 bit was all opn Richard, however.
Although the build is supposed to be 5.0.7, the GetInfo screen should read 5.0.6 1303M. If it does not, you can email Andre or myself and we can attach a patch or a download link that will get Mac users fixed up.
*If you do have a Mac built those years, I can show you how to install Mojave onto an APFS Volume and boot into it to run Encore 5.

Until version 6 is available, there’s no way to make Encore work on your Mac.
August 14, 2025 at 1:26 pm #4641I am trying to figure out what is gained by moving the ship date ever few months rather than admit this product will never ship. I am hoping it will, as I don’t do a LOT of notation, but enjoy composing with Encore. What is gained by this? for anybody?
My solution is that I’m running, on an old computer I was going to sell, the last Encore that came out.
Here’s hoping it is all talk, but here’s expecting that it is, indeed, a nothing-burger.
August 19, 2025 at 2:36 pm #4659At this point I’m just waiting for AI to get good enough to rewrite Encore’s code to make it work on 64-bit systems. That’s all I (and I believe most Encore users) want–Encore just like it was, but able to run on modern operating systems so that I can access and work on my 100s (if not 1000s) of Encore files that I’ve created since 1995. I don’t need or desire any fancy upgrades to Encore, whose selling point was its straightforward simplicity. And I have lost all faith that Don will ever deliver what he’s promised, since he keeps pushing back the delivery date (for YEARS now) as if it’s a joke, and rarely touches base here to let us know if he’s even still working on it. Fool me once…

August 19, 2025 at 11:47 pm #4661I started using Encore in 1993 on a Mac CX. Since then I have done 1,000’s of charts and lead sheets for various people and groups.None of that would have been possible without the brilliant work Don created previous to that. Knowing how old I am but not how old Don is I’m going to give him the benefit of doubt. Maybe he is not well or has something else equally as serious going on in his life. Rather than whine about things you can’t change, please leave or shut up. You’re not in Walmart.
August 20, 2025 at 2:57 am #4662Mike, thanks for the post!
I also think it’s unnecessary and inappropriate to judge Don and his work. After Gvox, he offered to continue the work with Encore and Master Tracks Pro, especially since they were his babies with which he celebrated great success in the early 1990s. I remember being 30 years old and watching the launch of Encore with wide eyes at a music fair. And let’s be honest – for most of us, Encore is much more than just a piece of software. It is a way of life and a beloved companion that has accompanied us through the decades of our lives.
August 21, 2025 at 3:25 am #4666I can understand your frustration very well, but I can’t do anything about the current situation. Don’s communication leaves a lot to be desired, I agree, but that’s no reason to discredit Don.
I for one am used to waiting and stalling during the GVOX phase. An update was also promised here, but I don’t think that was ever planned.
Under GVOX, however, Encore was available to buy at a crossgrade price, which I did in 2014.I’ve been using MusicTime and Master Tracks Pro since 1995. I’m still using Master Tracks Pro and Don promised to update MTP too.
MusicTime was replaced by Encore and I can currently work properly with it under Win10
As you can see, I have remained loyal to Passport for 30 years. The only thing that could happen if Encore 6 is released is that we will all be disappointed by the new Encore because it is no longer the “old” one…
August 22, 2025 at 7:14 pm #4672Regarding the dreaded lockup by holding down the mouse too long (Windows) …
I mentioned it in another thread that I would “jiggle the handle” to get it back. I no longer dread this like I did before. Before I would screen capture my work that happened to be left on the screen if I was lucky then kill Encore and rescore what I took a picture of. Now, I’m able to recover without having to go through that.
So, from oops … “not responding” blue circle, hourglass, or something is locking me out of Encore:
1) I right-click on the taskbar encore icon. That brings up a menu. For me it shows “Encore-5.0.4.795.175” as the first line, “Pin to taskbar” as the second, and “Close window” as the third
2) Click on “Encore-5.0.4.795.175” from this popup menu
3) Notice that Encore gets “unstuck”. The palette menus that disappeared come back and there’s some kind of weird error on the screen. A red “X” with “could not be loaded in because the specified file cannot be found.”
4) You can “X” out this error or press OK.
5) Your cursor will become a tick-tock metronome shape.
6) Now click on the bottom of the encore window. The very bottom which is below the right hand scroll bar down arrow. You don’t have to click on the right side – just that this is part of the very outer frame. Your cursor should change to a normal pointer.
7) There’s probably a strange black highlight as residue. Go to “view” and “refresh score” to get everything back to normal.Optional: step 6 instead of clicking at the bottom you can instead click in the empty “gray” area that’s not your score IF you have this. This would be within the window and to the side of a score you’re editing. If the score fills up the entire window and there’s no gray background area – then just click the bottom of the window.
That was easy …
Not getting into the rinse-and-repeat of long-in-the-toothy-ness.
August 22, 2025 at 7:15 pm #4673Mike, obviously there is some pathological need for Don to punish his former Encore subscribers.
Although Don was the creator of Encore, he had no part of it for decades. There are no “his Encore subscribers”. He has purchased the source code and found it to be in hideous shape—the easy port that he expected was not to be.
The only thing that could happen if Encore 6 is released is that we will all be disappointed by the new Encore because it is no longer the “old” one…
I have been told that we can expect this. Current OS (Mac and Win) are not going to let us have the old Encore that now works in 64 bit — and that’s too bad. The interface will resemble Overture except that it will be able to open Encore files and let us use VSTs again (Mac). Will it become my new default for lead sheets, choral and praise band work? I hope so.
I’m still using Encore 5 for quick charts but I cannot publish the results since they look so bad. I’m saving as pdf, then using PDFtoMusic Pro to export as MusicXML that I open in Finale, fix the fonts and can then publish.
My heavy lifting has always been done in Finale but it’s not playing nice with macOS 26 Tahoe and may never. Still trying to get the hang of Dorico that I’ve owned since v.2. And then, MuseScore 5 might actually be good if we ever see it (first promised 2023!). and so it goes…
I’ve just been too busy to worry about any of that. Somehow, I’ve been able to make music and notate it since 1969 by drawing in pencil and stencils for the ditto and mimeograph machines.
September 4, 2025 at 12:24 pm #4709Now that Apple will make my 2018 Mac Mini unsupported with Tahoe, I’ll be needing to upgrade to a Silicon Mac in the next couple years. That will make quickly booting into Mojave no longer an option for Encore 5. Of course, I can keep the 2018 or an older laptop handy for use, but having to use 2 machines to do the work of one will not be convenient!
So, in any case, it will be necessary to learn a new notation software. I see no reason not to have that be Encore 6 which will open Encore 5 files. Yes, I’ve learned to work around the various quirks of Encore 5, and there will be a learning curve with Encore 6. But, I see no reason to go to another product when I”ve been using “Encore” since the ’90s!
Don, keep fighting the good fight! I’m looking forward to the release of Encore 6.
