      Tony,

Are you using the sound card in your computer? Are you using the general MIDI sounds? MIDI channel 10 is used for percussion sounds in general MIDI and each note plays a different instrument. You can see them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_MIDI

There is “timpani” in the list but (not having tried it) it probably only plays one pitch.

Outside of that, a lot of synthesized timpani sounds sound to me like someone hit the timpani with a wooden mallet. They are harsh and bright. I have gotten a better timpani sound by filtering a lot of the high frequencies (on a synth). I don’t know if you can do that with whatever you are using for sounds.

I don’t know if this applies to your situation, but the MIDI channel 10 in your post brought this up in my mind.

      God bless!

My question about producing the chart in Encore 4.1 or 4.5.5 or 5.0 is how to make the measure numbers appear as shown in the PDF. The rest of the document could be made by moving the staff at the start of each new movement where you want it and putting in the title in a text box. In looking at the measure numbers, I know of no way to restart the measure numbers in 4.5.5 or 5.0. (I work on a PC.) Also the measure numbers are farther to the right than my versions of Encore will produce. The only way I know to do what is shown in this PDF is to add measure numbers as text boxes. Then you can restart the sequence as often as you like. Lining them up takes a little bit of work, but you can use a vertical line object to do the lining up and then delete the line.

In the upper left corner of the window containing your score click on “Voice -” and select “2” (or “3”, “4”, etc.). Then in Lyric Entry mode click the note on the staff where you want to enter text. You can drag that line of lyrics up and down by clicking and holding the arrow in the margin and dragging up or down. When you are done adding lyrics, click on “Voice x” again and select “All Voices”. When you are editing lyrics, you should select the voice again if it is not voice 1. Otherwise, results may not be what you want.

In order to enter lyrics below the bass clef of a piano staff, select voice “1” rather than “All Voices” for the first line of lyrics, and “2”, “3”, etc. after that rather than voices “5”, “6”, etc., even though the bass clef normally has voices 5, 6, 7, and 8.
