    In another post, Don wrote:

“At some point we plan on implementing VST support, but probably not in the initial release.”

As for NotePerformer, it would surprise me if we saw it ever. It is tightly integrated into the only three apps it supports, Sibelius, Dorico and Finale and would take a lot of development on both sides before another app can use it. The long promised version 4 from Wallander is way overdue.

    “Mike,
Volker meant lyrics from MIDI files as displayed e.g. in Band in a Box.”

I get it. I have Band-In-A-Box and am also a beta tester. I can save BIAB files with lyrics under the Save As Special menu and they will display lyrics when opened in BIAB or RealBand only. They will not display lyrics when opened in Overture, Finale, Dorico or Notion so I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

Back to my previous answer: MusicXML 3.0 Import/Export supports Lyrics, Text and Expressions. I’m expecting to see it in Encore 6. It’s already there in BIAB.

    You misunderstand.

If I remember correctly, Encore 4 doesn’t save or print if the program can’t validate the license file. In Windows, this is often caused by a path error during a Microsoft update. Sometimes, reinstalling the app and re-entering the license will fix this.

    Hey, Paul,

Great to see you a couple weeks ago. Per our discussion, the lyric line up/down adjustment is done by click-drag on the arrow to the left of the box showing the verse number. This is described on pages 47 and 56 of the Encore 5 manual. Since I like to use 12 point type instead of the 9 point default, that tool is my best friend in Encore.

For some reason, Encore is not seeing your license.

I’ll assume Windows but I’m on a Macc. I’d look at the manual for a solution.

Passport Music is not taking upgrades to version 5.x nor are they offering any support. If you Google Encore 5.0.4 for Windows, you may find an old download link. See if that will accept your license.

There’s a note on the home page: “At this time there are no products being sold or none to be downloaded. This will only occur when Encore 6 is released.”

“I’m going to buy a macbook AIR with M1 processor. Will ENCORE 5.0.4.875 \ Encore Mac run on Apple MacBook Air M1 13.3?”

No. Keep watching for Encore 6.

There is no way for any older version of Encore to run on an Apple Silicon (M1 or M2) Mac. You need MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) or earlier to run 5.0.7 which is not possible on an AS Mac.

ENCORE 5.0.4.875 is for Windows. I have no idea if it can be made to run over a Windows emulator on an Apple Silicon Mac. Even though I have a license for it, I have no interest in running Windows on my M1.

Usual disclaimer: I’m an Encore User only and do not speak for Passport Music. My opinions are my own.

An Elision is done with an apostrophe if deleting a vowel such as “Ev’ry valley…”

It just occurred to me that you might be referring to Elision‿Slurs for joining syllables from two words under one note. Encore 5 lets you do this by hitting the Command key before the Space bar but does not enter a symbol. You can insert an Elision‿Slur in Encore 5 but it’s a bit funky. I find such a character on a web site, copy it to my clipboard and paste it as needed. Doesn’t work in all fonts and it’s not elegant like the solutions offered in Finale, Sibelius, Dorico and Overture.

Since Elision Slurs already exist in Overture, let’s hope that Don adds this feature to Encore 6. From the Overture 5 User Guide:

    “Enter an Elision Slur
To add an elision slur between two syllables type the character ‘^’ between the two syllables. Overture will replace this character with small slur when it displays the lyric on your score.”

(Yes, I checked. This does not work in Encore 5)

I haven’t used MusicTime Deluxe in over 25 years but I remember that, when I switched to Encore, the first thing I did was open my MTD files and save them in the full featured app. Is there any reason why this wouldn’t work for you?

None of the best known notation apps offer an entry level version anymore except Dorico. I’m not being facetious, just trying to understand why you feel a new version of MTD would be needed. Am I missing something?

Nah, AutoSave is always a desirable feature along with Multiple Undo.

MIDI doesn’t export or import Text. MusicXML 1.x as it was implemented in Encore 5 can but not everything and no Lyrics or Expressions.

MusicXML 3.0, expected in Encore 6, will handle all of three — it already does in Overture.

I would like to see alternate fonts, too. If not, I would at least like Expressions to be resizable. That tiny Coda has always annoyed me.

Encore owners are eligible for Competitive Upgrade pricing for SmartScore64 Pro. That’s $100 off. Finale PrintMusic, Sibelius & Dorico owners also qualify.
    https://www.musitek.com/store/Pro64CompUpgrade.html

Again, I like it because can edit the file before I export the MusicXML 3.0 file. Encore 5 can import these files but a lot of the information such as lyrics and dynamics will not import—need to wait till Encore 6 for that.

If you happen to own the full version of Finale, you can a 50% discount instead through the same link.

    Ok I’ll bite.

How are you trying to write an elision? I’ve never had a problem with this in Encore.
