I have something in that area… please send me a mail
What I understand is that a new XML version is an upgrade to the old one, so that all old tags and parameters remain valid. There would be new tags, of course, but linked to functionalities which are newly supported – which are probably not the most used ones.
I’ll suppose that new markup tags, properly opened and closed, are due to be ignored by older levels.Similarly to html, where several levels peacefully coexist.
“I just signed up to say this. I have found a working serial number
922185-u0v827-732483-038877-000077-561479”I saw that one on the web. Looks like an “unofficial” distribution. Such serial numbers only work with some cracked program copies.
AFAIK, this is not an Encore serial number
Happy birthday, Mario!
However, JSB’s anniversary was 10 days ago, he was born at the spring equinox, although in a place where the julian calendar was still active. But the calendar change dit not change former days.
As far as I can see, Encore can read MTS files (as generated by MasterTracks, there could be other usages of this extension).
You could send me one to make a test.Bart,
Yes I found it and I’m busy putting it on my site. Send me a mail so that I have yout e-mail address (mine can easily be derived from my user name here).-

I cannot be specific for Encore 453, but I have a copy of 455 which, still today, opens normally on Windows 11. I think I have an installation file for 455, I’ll see to add it on my download page that I can send you on request.
Encore 5 will definitely open Encore 4 files, otherwise nobody would have migrated from E4 to E5. There is some older level which could not directly be opened, it required an intermediate step, but I don’t remember which that was.
That I remember, the license keys distributed with new purchases in 2006 or 2007 were accepted in Encore 5, but older ones were not (but were in E455, I guess).
Now, it is not possible nowadays to purchase an Encore 5 license, since PassportMusic stopped business in the 2021/2022 timeframe.

Well, it will depend on how broken is your old laptop.
If it still works when connected to power, and no longer on batteries, you can get access to your license key within the registry (in Windows) and most probably what is equivalent on a mac. What is your operating system?
Gary,
For sure, support for Encore has been formally discontinued when PassportMusic stopped business, wasn’t that in 2020? And it was already extremely minimal when a so-called “Revived Passport” took over from GVOX in 2023.
The new Passport owner has never indicated he would support Encore5 – which I understand.A few users here are trying to help other users in this forum, on a best effort basis, but we are unable to help on formal registration matters. It is probable that we are still bound by the license agreement we signed in the past, and that it would not be legal to publicly disclose registration keys here.
On Windows, the registration key is stored on the registry, at a well-defined place, and I guess that on Mac it should be similar. Recovering it may require some recovery copy of the registry.
The question has been raised here, and I have answered, but the software of this forum is so poor, finding a past information is like searching a needle in a haystack.
AFAIK, there is no format/layout difference between Encore5 and MTDL4 files, the difference which lays in the file extensions is somehow cosmetic.
Don has confirmed here that E6 would handle E5 files, the MTD4 question wasn’t raised yet at that time. He comes on this forum only once in a while.Normally yes, Encore 5 runs as well on Windows 11 as it does on Windows 10. There have apparently been difficulties on some new systems (as opposed to upgrades), but there should be a solution by removing an (invasive) feature.
First thing is to try, if you still have the installation file.-

Well, Encore 5 can do that…
In Windows, it is an application which runs very well on current hardware and software, though the XML export is quite limited.More seriously, I only know of Harmony Assistant (Myriad) which has an import function for MTD/Encore files. Developped at Encore 4 time-frame, and slightly modified more than 10 years ago to open Encore 5 files. Depending on the file complexity, it can do a good job (particularly on E4) or be very poor…
Perhaps several other products did the same, but dit not shout it load. Doing that requires a careful decoding of the Encore files, which some people believe it’s “reverse engineering” which is prohibited by the usage license. AFAIK, the concept of reverse engineering applies only to product code (which is proprietary) not to data files (which are fully owned by the user of the software).
