    23 – 19 = 4

Antonio, you are entitled to have this opinion, of course.
What you consider a waste of time, is it the development effort, or the talk on this forum?

You can also stop wasting your time, by not reading this forum anymore.

I have looked at this PDF with a text editor – and useful information is near the end.
The PDF wasn’t created directly using Encore 4.1, but by Steven Sherrill using probably “Acrobat Distiller 5.0 for Macintosh”. It looks like an aggregator of postscript output.

The file itself is in a folder called “Acrobat” on the “Symphony Orchestra Library Center”, which is still managed by Steven Sherrill. If you want to know how this process works, you may want to contact this organization, their site offers an e-mail address for inquiries: noten@orchestralibrary.com

I wonder if this pdf was not created, taking as a source a set of pdfs (one per “piece”), using a PDF editor. I think that PDFmerge does that only for whole pages, but perhaps more sophisticated applications such as Adobe Acrobat.

But, does he still have the Encore 4.1 source file? I you can have it, can you send me a copy?

Hello Noel, send me a mail so that I could send you a link to the latest download versions of Encore.

Apparently the recommended OS version is Mojave, and that I can see High Sierra is older. I know nothing detailed of Mac systems.

I’m not sure that scores created in Encore 4.1 will be read by Encore 5. Those created in Encore 4.5.5 will, for sure. At some time there has been a disruption.

You may want to send me a sample .enc file from that level, I’d try to sort out.

At least, I count 25 days between 30/8 and 23/9.

I would have written “coming this year”, it wouldn’t need periodic updates… 🙁

Another method, which can sometimes work, is to use Harmony Assistant to read the encore file. It either works quite well, or not at all. I can give it a try if you send me the .enc file.

    I am using Encore 5.0.2.593,…

    No, Encore 5 isn’t 35 years old, perhaps 17.

The oldest registration keys which are valid for E5 were issued in 2006-2007 for E4 with an “included upgrade” to E5.

But 502 had a short life, I don’t remember of any problem such as the ones you mention. You would best upgrade to 504, which is the stable Win version. Write me a note so that I can send you a download link.

“All “windows” except the score itself have a black background. This is hard to read (or needs a bigger “white font”) – and even worse to print – if that is some time done.

You’re 100% right. If there’s no way to change/adjust this white font on a black background, that would be a reason (the first reason) for me to stop using Encore…”

This dark background resembles the two possibilities ov Overture, one is black and the other “light black”. But Overture has also 4 other ones, in which the first one is a “normal” black on white, the others more colored but probably experimental.

As far as I can understand, users still with Windows 7 may need to check their system requirements. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions seem quite independent. One can migrate 32>64, but it might require a new or reformatted hard disk, and a reinstallation of “everything”. The machine itself must be 64-bit compatible.

I was thinking of that when “Smoothie” said that his/her Encore5 was installed in the C:/Program Files/ folder. On 64-bit systems, this folder is meant to contain 64-bit applications, when 32-bit applications are in C:/Program Files (x86)/.
Now, I don’t know if that’s just for convenience, or if there is a technical difference on these two folders.

I have installed two 32-bit applications (among which Encore 5) in C:/Program Files/, overriding the default prompt. The installation went well, and elementary operation seems OK.

Tony, as well yesterday night when I saw your post, as just now, I didn’t experience such a phenomenon.

With other products, I have that same impression – but impression is not evidence, I should stopwatch that.

I don’t remember if E5 has a process to check (at every startup or once a day) if there is an update made available; some products do, and it reuires access to a site somewhere. That site being not active or not inaccessible is ignored. But if the site – or the network to access it – is somehow overloaded, a long delay is possible.

What I suggest you to try, is to stop your network connection while you start E5, and see if the problem persists.
