Yes, it happens that (for a new score, or a new staff), the “Device preset type” (in Midi device and instrument settings) is initialized with “Generic” or some other empty list.
Click on that field, and select, as a base, “Generic Midi” (you may have to scroll up a little to find it).If you find in the list the exact description of your synthesizer, feel free to us it, of course.
Can you send me a screen shot and the source (.enc) file?

504.795 isn’t a unique level denomination. There have been several experimental levels around 2013, identified with a second set of three digits, such as 795.172 .
These have significantly improved the stability of the product, but for some obscure reason that work has been thrown away when a so-called “Reborn PassportMusic” took over from GVOX via a “management buy out”. This explains that some levels above 795 weren’t an improvement at all.All “windows” except the score itself have a black background. This is hard to read (or needs a bigger “white font”) – and even worse to print – if that is some time done.
Distinguishing from the score window is fine, but I prefer pastel colors.I have seen enough black/dark green screens in the 70-80’s.
When this Encore 6 will be complete, it may still need 5 more minutes to get Overture 6…
Not that I’m opposed to this approach… not at all. Just wondering that the plan wasn’t said from the beginning.
Mario, on some posts “encore45” has signed “Bert”.
The fact that Encore5 does not run on Cataline or later isn’t due to Encore, but to an arbitrary choice of MacOs.
Several people have expressed here that Encore6 should open not only Encore5 format files, but also the most recent Encore4 files (typically E455).
If my memory serves, there have been two formats in the E4 lifespan, and the earliest one was not readable by E5 – old E4 files needed to be converted using the latest E4 levels. But I don’t remember details (perhaps some incompatibilities with E5).
So, I would not expect that E6 could go back to “early E4” format. As of Finale, Encore 5 did not open the Finale format, and apparently Overture doesn’t either. I would be surprized if the E6 plans were to include that format, taking into account that MusicXML is a much better approach to import in one editor the work prepared in another one.
The internal structure of files created by MusicTime”DeLuxe” (latest V4) and Encore (latest V5) are identical, the fact that they are using different default extensions is simply cosmetic. I would be surprized if anything was done in Encore6 to prevent reading .mus files.
May 26, 2025 at 1:07 pm in reply to: ability to set default top vertical point for staff on a new page? #4490There is so much rewrite announced for Encore 6, that it doesn’t make sense to mention minor issues or limitations present in E5. Taking those into consideration could only delay the initial delivery. And when E6 comes out, we’ll need to prioritize major issues with minor ones or simple suggestions.
Jack, I didn’t receive anything by mail yet.
Indeed, the manual shows how to hide bracket/figure, but only for quarter notes (and up, probably); for eighth notes (and shorter), only when beamed.
In any case, omitting the tuplet figure is an outdated bad habit, resulting in much confusion for the (musician) reader. The only case where it could be tolerated is for repetitive sets of (three) beamed notes.

Generally Encore works on Windows 11, and certainly when this was an upgrade of an earlier W10 on the same machine.
I have read that there are limitations on loadable software on some computers equipped with Windows 11 “from the box”. That might be a smarted down version.
The latest is still 504, but there is a subnumber for which the latest is 875. If you are far from that number (see Help/About) send me a mail, so that I could send you a link.
(for Mac the numbers were higher, up to 507, but it doesn’t mean it is more recent, they just numbered it differently).Well, “Passport Music Software LLC” (if I remember the name right) has announced that they stopped business, but looking for takeover of the company and/or assets.
These include, that I know
– the company brand name
– the PassportMusic.com web site
– the Intellectual Property rights on the products
– the customer base (the contracts with all or any of us).It isn’t sure if “Sonic Scores LLC” – or Don Williams individually – has purchased the “Passport Music Software LLC” company, or only some of their assets. For sure the IP rights, and apparently the web site; he used the brand name on this site, but refers to it as an “entity” which may have different meanings.
So, we cannot say for sure that the company is “defunct”.
