I am not familiar with version 5.0.2.593. Perhaps Andre knows what to do in this case.
You can write to him. His e-mail address is in his avatar.
I can only report on version 5.0.4.875. This version could be installed on Win10 without any problems. I am also not aware of any black backgrounds in the score view or in the toolboxes.-

Mario2. Reason: Wrong Revision
Mike, thanks for the post!
I also think it’s unnecessary and inappropriate to judge Don and his work. After Gvox, he offered to continue the work with Encore and Master Tracks Pro, especially since they were his babies with which he celebrated great success in the early 1990s. I remember being 30 years old and watching the launch of Encore with wide eyes at a music fair. And let’s be honest – for most of us, Encore is much more than just a piece of software. It is a way of life and a beloved companion that has accompanied us through the decades of our lives.
In the meantime, I have switched to Win10 64bit after my Win7 crashed last November.
Encore 5 was installed under C:/Program Files (x86)/.
I currently have no other versions installed in parallel. This was only the case with Win7.The question is not so stupid. Who knows what happens when you install new software?
But I assume that Encore 6, when it comes out, will not change anything in “old” installations because it will not be an update of the old Encore but a completely new program. Always assuming we are talking about the Windows platform here.
I used to have several versions of Encore 5 running side by side on my Win7 computer without them affecting each other.
The more important question would be whether the old Encore files can be opened with Encore 6 and how far back this compatibility is guaranteed.-

Andre was quicker. 🙂
The horizontal scroll bar is only available in the Mac version. On Windows, the zoom works as follows:
Click on the small triangular arrow next to the magnifying glass.
In the menu that now opens, you can choose between ‘Fit Page’, ‘Fit Width’, ‘Actual Scale’, ‘Constant Scale’, as well as zoom level ‘x2’, ‘x3’, “x4” or ‘Custom’.
With the zoom levels, a mouse pointer in the form of a hand is displayed after the respective setting. If you click on this in the score, the desired setting is applied. With Custom, you can enter the percentage of magnification directly, click on OK and then click on the hand symbol directly in the score. This is actually quite simple.
You can also set the size of the staves in the Staff-Sheet menu. Select the size 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the ‘Size’ column. The default setting is 3.Quale sistema operativo? Windows o Mac OS?

Yes Toni, the folder must be called “Devices”.
In my excitement, I hadn’t looked closely.July 17, 2025 at 1:53 am in reply to: Midi Device/Instrument Settings is not showing the name of the Instruments. #4602Under “Programs (x86)” you will find the program folder “Encore-5.0.4”. If you open this folder, you will see various subfolders. Among them there must also be a folder called “Device”. All MIDI instruments should be stored here.
If this is not the case, I can send you a link where you can find all the instruments. Simply open the downloaded ZIP file and copy the contents into the “Device” folder under Encore-xxx. If there is no device folder, please create one first. The instruments should now appear.Hi,
I have a solution to make the 16-bit program MTPRO6 run under Windows 10. Its blank.
Andre has already explained everything.
I would be interested to know whether the device list is completely empty or whether there are numbers there.@Antonia
I had also tried version 5.0.4.795, as there should be far fewer crashes here. But I couldn’t confirm that. I am currently working with version 5.0.4.875. My statement that I have not had any crashes of this kind for a long time also refers to this version. It may also be due to Win10. As far as I can remember, I had the most crashes under Win7.
If you take a look under “Development”, you can see screenshots of the new Encore 6 by clicking on “Read more”.
The new features are also described.
Apparently things are progressing, because before there was only text and no pictures.— Encore will freeze hard when clicking and dragging an object and holding onto it for some time without letting it go.
The problem is well known.
However, it is not always reproducible (Win10).
I had investigated it years ago and thought it was about 10 – 20 seconds before Encore crashed.
If you know it, you can deal with it and it doesn’t always happen. I haven’t had it for a long time now. -
